Metallica has added a coffee table book to the various forms of media coming this year to celebrate 30 years of the band's watershed self-titled album.

Metallica: The Black Album In Black & White features classic and previously unpublished photographs from the Black album and beyond. It features introductions by band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, former bassist Jason Newsted and renowned photographer Ross Halfin, who was with the band during the Black album sessions and the resulting tour.

Halfin shot thousands of film rolls with Metallica between 1991 and 1993, intimately documenting the band's hectic schedule with candid shots and portraits.

"We wanted to give these songs and this album the highest profile we could give them, and Ross was ready and willing to do that," Hammett said via a press release. "To this day, I still think he's one of the best live concert photographers ever."

The band's fifth studio album, Metallica, became a worldwide phenomenon thanks to classic songs like "Enter Sandman," "Sad But True," "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters."

Metallica: The Black Album In Black & White arrives October 19. For pre-orders and more information, go here.

In addition to the 30th anniversary box set of the Black album, Metallica announced The Metallica Blacklist featuring 53 covers of songs from the Black album by various artists across numerous genres.
