Umpire Tackles Fan Who Ran Onto The Field During Oakland A's Game

Veteran umpire Jeff Nelson had enough after a fan ran onto the field during the ninth inning of the Oakland Athletics 10-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday (April 20). The fan ran toward second base, tagged the bag and sprinted to first base before making his way to the pitcher's mound.

He pretended to throw a pitch and then ran back to second base. As he cut toward the infield grass, Nelson grabbed him and threw him to the ground as security came over to take him into custody.

It wasn't the first time that a fan interrupted play by running onto the field. A few innings earlier another fan bolted from the stands and tried to the steal the hat off of the head A’s right fielder Stephen Piscotty. As he tried to get back into the seats, other fans pushed him back on to the field, where he was grabbed by security guards.
