10,000 new businesses started since Jan 1

Posted April 10th, 2012 @ 10:32am

Almost 10,000 new businesses started up in Wisconsin from January through March.  That is 12 percent more than the same time a year ago.

State officials said today that just over 9800 new businesses registered with the Financial Institutions Department in the first quarter of 2012.

Last year, 8700 new businesses registered during that same period.

Almost 85 percent of Wisconsin’s new businesses are known as limited liability corporations, or "LLC’s."

Those types of firms provide shelter from personal liability, but unlike corporations, earnings from LLC’s go directly to the owners, and they’re taxed as individuals on them.
